Thirty-six teachers and students from Hsinchu Municipal Cheng De Senior High School visited its sister school, Naruto-Uzushio High School, on April 28, 2015. The two schools established their sister school relationship after TECO in Osaka introduced them to each other.
This was the first time that the Taiwanese high school had sent a delegation to Japan, and they received a very warm welcome. National flags were hung in the reception hall, and more than 600 teachers and students welcomed them with warm applause when the students and teachers from Cheng De Senior High School entered the hall. The famous Tokushima Awa dance was performed. The students from Taiwan then gave presentations outlining Hsinchu’s history, culture, scenic spots, and favorite local refreshments, all well illustrated with vivid videos and pictures. This was well received by the Japanese students and teachers.
Naruto-Uzushio High School had meticulously planned a range of activities for its sister school visitors. Teachers and students studied together, shared impressions, and details of project results, and generally strengthened mutual understanding and friendship.
The students split into groups for interaction, and the visitors were able to experience Kendo, calligraphy, and traditional kite-making. Students from both schools to each other spoke in English and in Japanese during the learning and experience activities, and felt very much at home with each other in a very short time. An excellent visit ended with students from the two sister schools competed to take the best commemorative photos, and they all promised to meet again, in Taiwan next time.
