2016 Mandarin Chinese Teaching Seminars for Russian Teachers Held at Chinese Culture University and National Taiwan Normal University

The 2016 Mandarin Chinese Teaching Seminars for Russian Teachers were held from January 16 to 31 at the Chinese Culture University and at National Taiwan Normal University with 35 Russian teachers and education professionals participated in the events. The participants were from various famous Russian universities and academic institutions, including: the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Moscow State Linguistic University, Moscow State Pedagogical University, National Research University Higher School of Economics, the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, Saint Petersburg State University, Saint Petersburg University of the Humanities and Social Sciences, and Tomsk State University.

The host universities arranged a very full curriculum for the seminars. The Mandarin Chinese teaching theories and practice component covered teaching materials, teaching practice, multimedia teaching, flipped teaching, vocabulary, pronunciation, dialogue, and TOCFL. Being in Taiwan gave allowed them to see traditional Chinese characters used in everyday life, These are a valuable component of Mandarin Chinese teaching, essential for serious study and a research career. The participants also enjoyed a wide range of Chinese culture events, including dancing, visits to Cloud Gate Theater, New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum, Taipei Confucius Temple, the National Palace Museum, and so on first hand.

In view of the rising “Oriental Fever” in Russia, the Education Division of the Representative Office in Moscow for the Taipei-Moscow Economic and Cultural Coordination Commission is keenly encouraging Taiwanese universities to grasp this opportunity and engage in more bilateral exchanges and cooperation, and further develop closer ties.
