TECO in Canada Took Part in the “Ottawa Welcomes the World” Gala Event Celebrating Canada’s 150 Anniversary
The city hall of Ottawa invited the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada (TECO in Canada) to take part in Ottawa Welcomes the World, a special gala event at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa to help celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. Representatives from over 75 countries and international partners will take turns hosting a series of over 45 international cultural showcases to be held at Lansdowne Park over the course of the year. Each will feature music, dance, food, traditional beverages, and more, all specifically related to the hosting country or region.
On Sunday, July 9 2017, TECO in Canada hosted the Ottawa Welcomes the World: Taiwan Day. Admission was free so people had a great opportunity to enjoy pop music, dance performances, Taiwanese food and snacks, a tea ceremony, the art of paper-cutting and flower arrangement, and the beauty of Taiwanese orchids. They could also find out about both tourist and education attractions in Taiwan.
The Education Division of TECO in Canada set up an educational information booth at the venue to promote educational exchanges between Taiwan and Canada, and provide local people with information about Chinese language proficiency testing certificates, scholarships, studying, and teaching English programs in Taiwan. Most visitors asked questions about opportunities to study Mandarin and for scholarship information, and they were also interested in tourism and working holiday programs in Taiwan.
Overall, the Taiwan Day event attracted many people and successfully promoted Taiwan’s culture, education, and arts. It sparked local people’s interest about Taiwan and gave them information about further opportunities to explore.
