Education Division of TECO in Chicago signs Taiwan Studies MOU with Indiana University-Bloomington East Asian Studies Center
On August 10, 2017 David Dong, Interim Director of the Education Division of TECO in Chicago, and Michael Brose, Director of the East Asian Studies Center at Indiana University at Bloomington, and Trisha Adams, Assistant Director of Research Contracting in the IU Office of Research Administration signed a Taiwan Studies related memorandum of understanding (MOU).
Under this MOU, Taiwan Studies at IU will be supported and expanded. A new undergraduate course called “Taiwan between Empires” will be developed, and travel assistance for graduate students and faculty, and exchanges of scholars, as well as support for visiting scholars will be provided.
Two Taiwan documentary films will be screened as part of the East Asian Studies Center’s Documentary Film in Post-Authoritarian Societies series, a Taiwan film scholar will participate in a series-opening roundtable discussion, and a sponsored visiting Taiwanese scholar will give a public presentation and address the new “Taiwan between Empires” class.
The funding provided for these activities by the R.O.C. Ministry of Education will be matched by IU research funds. This MOU is for one year but this period can be extended, to continue collaboration to contribute to share Taiwan’s diverse culture with IU and its community.
