Ministry of Education Chief Secretary visits Hong Kong
The Ministry of Education Chief Secretary Dr. Chu Nan-Shyan 朱楠賢visited Hong Kong on August 31 and September 1, accompanied by Mr. Pi Tsu-An 畢祖安, Director-General of the Department of International and Cross-strait Education, and Mr. HwangYeong Chuan 黃永傳, Director of the Department of Accounting. Mr. Sheu Ruey-horng Principal Deputy Director of the Liaison Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office and Mr. Carson Chan accompanied the visiting delegation in Hong Kong.
On the first day, they visited the Chu Hai College of Higher Education Building at Tsuen Wan. In the afternoon they had an hour-long meeting at Hong Kong Baptist University Shaw Tower with Professor Roland T Chin, the President and Vice-Chancellor; the Provost Professor Clayton Mackenzie; Professor Rick Wong, the Vice-President for Research and Development; Dr Albert Chau, the Vice-President for Teaching and Learning; and Mr. Andy Lee, the Vice-President for Administration and Secretary. Then in the evening, the delegation had dinner with the Hong Kong Federation of Taiwan Universities Alumni Association in Tsim Tsa Tzui.
The next morning, they had a meeting at Taipei Economic and Cultural Office with Director General Mr. Yen Chueng Kwang to discuss the education system and situation in Hong Kong. This was followed by a lunch at Chi Lin Nunnery with Tong Sau Chai, Vice Chairman of Yuen Yuen Institute, and the committee members from the Federation of Parent-Teacher Associations. They also visited the nearby Nan Lian Garden, said to be one of the most beautiful spots in Hong Kong, with hills, water features, trees, rocks and wooden structures. It was designed and built under the supervision of the Chi Lin Nunnery, and entrusted by the Government to the Nunnery after its completion.
