Taiwan wins 4 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals at the 19th Asian Physics Olympiad in Hanoi

Taiwan wins 4 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals at the 19th Asian Physics Olympiad in Hanoi

The Taiwanese delegation won four gold, one silver, and three bronze medals in the 19th Asian Physics Olympiad held in Hanoi University of Science and Technology on May 12, 2018. The gold medals were won by Chiang Li-Yuan, Chung Shang-Hsuan, Kao Wei-Bo, and Tseng Sian-Yang; the silver medal was won by Chen Chang-Han; and the bronze medals were won by Wang Wei-En, Luo Pei-Rui, and Chu Chia-Tung. Gold medalist Chung Shang-Hsuan, a third year student from Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School, was also awarded one of nine special prizes: the Most Deserving Performer of Theory prize. There were 188 competitors from 25 countries and regions, and the Taiwanese delegation was ranked third internationally, together with the host country Vietnam.
The delegation was led by Professor Kao Hsien-Chung from the Department of Physics at National Taiwan Normal University, and Professor Tsai Shang-Fang from Wufeng University. It included Professor Chia Chi-Ta and Professor Fu Tsu-Yi from the Department of Physics at National Taiwan Normal University, and Professor Mou Chung-Yu from the Department of Physics at National Tsing Hua University, to assist with the translation of the test questions, and arbitration of results.
Chang Shu-Ching, third secretary of the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Vietnam picked up the delegation when they arrived at Noi Bai International Airport on May 5 and assisted the delegation to attend the competition. Lee Ming, director of the Education Division of TECO in Vietnam forwarded a congratulatory message from Taiwan’s Minister of Education to the delegation after its excellent performances and hosted a lunch for its members.
