Industry 4.0 and its Impact on Higher Education Conference in Hanoi

The Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) co-hosted a conference entitled Industry 4.0 and its Impact on Higher Education’ at HUST on August 7, 2018. The distinguished delegates at the opening ceremony included Dr. La Hoang Trung, Director-General of the National Electronic and Authentication Center, of the Ministry of Information and Communication of Vietnam; Prof. Dinh Van Phong, Vice President of HUST; Bui Thanh Tung, the Deputy Director of the Department of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs of Hai Duong Province, and senior officials from Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment. Other participants included the rectors and presidents of major universities in Vietnam, scholars, and representatives from enterprises in Taiwan and in Vietnam. 
There were three conference sessions, on: 1. How educational policies respond to the 4th Industrial Revolution, 2. Industry 4.0: Challenges & opportunities for institutions of higher education,  and 3.  Industry 4.0 related university–industry links: the industry sector viewpoint.
One after another, the participanting scholars stressed the importance of learning new techniques at university level to respond to the challenges of new technology. Prof. Chou Shou-Yan, Director of the Center for IOT Innovation at National Taiwan University of Science and Technolog spoke about Taiwan’s experiences, and said that Taiwan has requested that all university students learn programming, and the ability to operate robts is also very important.
The conference drew more than a hundred participants and a lot of questions were raised during the discussions. A number of main-stream media reported about the conference, including Vietnam Television (VTV) 6, which interviewed people at the conference, and broadcast an almost two minute report (117 seconds) on ‘Bản tin thế hệ số’ (Newsletters), a general interest news program, at 10:45pm, later the same day.
