Chen Wen-yi, Representative at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Canada, greeted the team from Taiwan that had just competed in the 2018 World Junior Girls Golf Championship, at the TECO in Canada office in Ottawa on September 14. The team of three junior girl golfers – Ms. Huang Yu-Ping, Ms. An Ho-Yu, and Ms. Lin Kuan-Yu – was accompanied by their coach, Ms. Gina Yang.
The 2018 World Junior Girls Golf Championship was hosted by the Camelot Golf & Country Club in Ottawa, from September 9 to 14. Eighteen teams, a total of 54 golfers, competed in the tournament. After four days competition against some of the best players of their age in the world, the Taiwan team finished 6th - after Italy, the USA, Thailand, Canada, and Sweden. This is an excellent achievement, up from in 16th place in 2017.
The World Junior Girls Golf Championship was conducted by Golf Canada in partnership with Golf Ontario, and supported by the R&A and International Golf Federation. It is recognized as an ‘A’ ranked event by the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR). This was the fifth World Junior Girls Championship – the inaugural competition was held in 2014.
