Program of Career Counseling and Retention in Taiwan for International Students

The Ministry of Education assists universities in establishing career development and employment support systems for international students to promote the percentage of international students who stay and work in Taiwan, and the implementation strategies are as follows:

  • Designate dedicated employment counseling staff for international students:
  1. Designates a specialist of career counseling in each university for international student to help them with employment skills and career planning.
  2. Provide relevant training courses and information to ensure that counselors have the expertise to provide information.
  • Formulate courses (including internships) together with enterprises:
  1. Encourage cooperation between universities and enterprises in related fields, and select enterprises to jointly formulate courses, lectures, internships, and other activities.
  2. Provide courses to improve the Chinese language proficiency of international students and establish standards for the advancement of Chinese language proficiency to help students meet the needs of the industry.
  • Establish SOPs about Learning and Employment:
  1. Plan in advance to provide international students with counseling services, such as career exploration and domestic employment counseling, as early as possible during their admission stage, and organize career seminars and career fairs to assist international students in understanding the workplace environment in Taiwan.
  2. Establish SOPs of academic performance and career counseling for international students, and provide international students with information on internships and careers, so as to ensure that there are dedicated staff to help international students in study and employment.
  3. Plan the assessment and visits to student internship sites in order to evaluate the status and feedback of student internships.
  • Implement the tracking of employment in Taiwan:
  1. Establish a post-graduation career tracking system for international students, and achieve the effectiveness of career counseling and advisory services and activities on campus.
  2. Build an alumni database or a related platform to share information related to the recruitment of enterprises, and strengthen the connection between graduated international alumni and their alma maters through the network to promote their long-term development in Taiwan.
