Establishing a Cooperative Environment for Industry and Academia where Everyone Wins is the Trend of the New Era

To foster cooperation between industries and trade schools and in turn encouraging from tech and trade courses participating international competitions, the MOE sponsored the "2007 Digital Signal Processing Creative Design Contest" and "2007 Taiwan Micro Mouse Contest", which was organized by Southern Taiwan University. The competitions ended on the 28th and the award/enterprise donation ceremony will be held on the 29th of January this year.

The MOE has placed great emphasis on the intellectual exchange and cooperation between private enterprises and technical schools for a very long time. For the "2007 Digital Signal Processing Creative Design Contest" and "2007 Taiwan Micro Mouse Contest ", the "TEMI (Taiwan Embedded Microcontroller Development Institute)" invited companies including Texas Instruments, ZEROPLUS TECHNOLOGY, Sonix, Holtek Semiconductor Inc., TeraSoft Inc., Etoms Electronics Corp., Elan Microelectronics Corp, King Billion Electronics Co., FullWell-sys, What-Trend Tech and Gallant to participate in the efforts to foster partnerships between the academia and the industry. The companies donated development systems worth NT$4 million and also assisted in building labs for the 4 winning schools, including Southern Taiwan University. This will go down in history as one of the greatest partnership efforts by the academia and private sectors. The donation ceremony will be hosted by Chen Ming-yin, the Bureau Chief of Technological and Vocational Education Bureau, MOE.

Dai Chein, the Dean of Southern Taiwan University said that excellent education fosters industry competitiveness, hence having a close working relationship between the industry and technical schools is critical to the development of the domestic industry. He expressed his gratitude for the MOE for having the foresight to establish an excellent cooperative system between the private sector and the academia. By encouraging students to participate in competitions and applying their knowledge and skills in real-life settings, a platform for exchanging knowledge on MCU (Microcontroller Unit) is provided for the academia and an opportunity for the companies to mine talents with great potential is given and finally, an environment where from which the students, the schools, and the companies can all benefit will be created.
