《Sports Administration, Ministry of Education Press Release》 Taiwan’s athletes for the 2025 Chengdu World Games announced 120 athletes ready to go!

Taiwan will send a total of 120 athletes to compete in 14 sports at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu. The athletes will all do their best to win glory.

The 12th 2025 Chengdu World Games (World Games) will be held in Chengdu, China August 7 to 17, 2025. On July 24, the Sports Administration (SA) explained Taiwan's participation in the Games this time. A total of 34 sports disciplines will be featured; Taiwan is sending 120 athletes to compete in 14 sports, including softball, billiards, canoeing, dance sport, ju-jitsu, korfball, orienteering, powerlifting, racquetball, roller sports, tug of war, aquatic sports, water skiing, and wushu. The national delegation will begin departing in early August, all set to strive for glory for Taiwan.

Taiwan’s women’s tug of war team is aiming for a sixth consecutive triumph, and tradition strong medal-winning sports such as korfball, powerlifting, softball, billiards, roller sports, and wushu will also have athletes representing Taiwan. In addition, Taiwan’s athletes will be participating for the first time in breaking, racquetball, inline hockey, freestyle roller skating, beach korfball, freediving, and wushu sanda. All athletes are now in intensive training to achieve peak condition and are ready to show their talents  in full on the international stage.

Since first being held in 1981, the World Games have been held 11 times, and Taiwan has participated every time. In 2009, the Kaohsiung World Games were held, and were highly affirmed by the International World Games Association (IWGA). The SA stated that the World Games are an important international multi-sport event for non-Olympic and non-Asian Games disciplines. The government has invested resources in nurturing athletes for many years. In addition to strongly supporting athletes’ training and daily care, this year’s enhanced logistics support will see athletic trainers and physical therapists accompanying the athletes, allowing  them to focus on delivering their best performances on the world stage.

A flag presentation ceremony for the national delegation will be held by the SA on July 25 at 10 AM, with a representative from the Presidential Office attending and presenting a bonus for athletes. Tug of war athlete Tian Jia-rong will receive the bonus on behalf of the delegation. The Ministry of Sports will officially be established on September 9, and will continue the mission of strengthening Taiwan through sports, building a sports nation characterized by sports equality, social inclusion, and sustainable development, and realizing the goals of making sports for all, industrialized, and internationalized.
