OpenCourseWare Consortium in Universities: Resource Sharing
In 1999, OpenCourseWare, a project aimed at making knowledge accessible to everyone, was proposed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Educational Technology Conference. The goal of OCW is to make universities courses, which were originally accessible to college students only, available for people outside the universities. To be adaptable to customer’s needs, the contents in OCW are open for capture and modification as long as the contents are not for sale and the origin of the contents is stated. Also, the contents are free for dissemination under mutually agreed regulations.
Since resource sharing has become a global trend in education, Taiwan OpenCourseWare Consortium was established on December 24, 2008 with the National Chiao Tung University leading several colleges around Taiwan.
Currently, OCW have 28 members, including National Sun Yat-sen University, National Central University, National Chung Hsing University, National Cheng Kung University, National Chiao Tung University, Soochow University, National Dong Hwa University, Chang Jung Christian University, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Chengchi University, Kaohsiung Medical University, National Tsing Hua University, National Hsinchu University of Education, Fu Jen Catholic University, Taipei Medical University, National Chiayi University, National Taiwan University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Taiwan Ocean University, National Taiwan Normal University, National Taiwan University of Arts, Providence University, Kun Shan University, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, National Open University, Hung Kuang University, Chung Hua University and National Ilan University.
